BRIEF

[Temple] is an original lamp design that references Space-Age design art. Aluminum alloy, acrylic and nylon are selected in the material, the silver white of aluminum and the milky yellow of nylon, reflecting a retro and fiction visual effect. The Chinese Translation “厝” means house in Hokkien language, and the whole design language is built around temple, space and other elements, so we have the name [Temple].

CONCEPT

This product was originally designed to express my aesthetic inclination and understanding of materials and processes. All parts are selected for easy mass industrial production, low cost, high fault-tolerance materials and processing methods, such as laser cutting, sheet metal, turning and other processes, aluminum alloy sheet, nylon bar, acrylic sheet material cost is also very low. In the structure I also adopt the minimalist support way, with the least raw materials, the most simple structure to ensure the stability of the center of gravity. In terms of visual effects, I want the whole product to reflect a sense of mystery, transcendence, fusion of retro and future. The overlapping placement of aluminum alloy sheet and acrylic sheet, on the one hand, is to meet the function of light penetration, on the other hand, visually like deep windows, gazing eyes, stately Buddhist Niches, producing a sense of holiness in a neat arrangement of the temple.

PROTOTYPING & ENGINEERING

The structure of this product is relatively simple. The design thinking of the overall structure and component combination is more important. The main structure is made of aluminum alloy sheet and acrylic sheet cut by laser, and the bottom bracket is made of nylon bar processed by turning. I selected 5V aluminum base COB strip as the lighting unit, directly attached to the aluminum alloy lamp holder inside, to achieve the purpose of heat dissipation. In addition, it should be noted that each part is processed in different ways, and the tolerance generated by it needs to be recalculated after stacking to avoid assembly problems in the later stage.
